The Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when heavily armed gunmen ambushed his vehicle along Ikirun Road in Osogbo, Osun State capital, around 10:05 p.m. on Monday. Omoyele sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility, with his condition reported to be stable and under protective watch.

The Amotekun Corps spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, confirmed the incident, stating that the case has been officially reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive remains unclear.

In a separate incident, 15 masked gunmen stormed Omoyele’s private residence later that night, arriving in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV. The attack has raised concerns about the safety and security of high-ranking officials in the region, with measures being taken to ensure their protection.
