Dangote Group has broken ground on a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia, marking a significant milestone in Africa’s agricultural and industrial development. The plant, a joint venture with Ethiopian Investment Holdings, will produce three million metric tonnes of urea annually, making it one of the world’s largest fertiliser complexes.

Aliko Dangote, President and Founder of Dangote Group, sees this project as a “new dawn” for Africa, symbolizing the first time a private African investor has partnered with an African nation to build an industrial complex of such magnitude. The project aligns with Ethiopia’s goal to become a regional fertiliser hub and Africa’s leading agricultural nation within five years.
The construction of this plant is expected to transform Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, reduce import dependency, and create employment opportunities. Dangote Group plans to establish a polypropylene bagging plant and expand into other fertiliser products, further solidifying Ethiopia’s position in the industry.
