Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is optimistic that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will be released soon. Otti made this statement after meeting with President Bola Tinubu, saying he’s been engaging with the President on Kanu’s release and Tinubu is favorably disposed to it.
Otti cited his decades-long friendship with Tinubu, expressing confidence that the President will keep his word. Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, representing Tinubu, urged south-east residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, assuring that regional leaders are exploring a political solution to Kanu’s case.
Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, facing terrorism charges, and his health condition has been a concern, with calls for his release growing louder.
