Former Adamawa North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has turned himself in to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja following allegations that he assaulted a 13-year-old secondary school student.
According to the victim’s parents, the incident occurred on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. They further alleged that the former senator attempted to silence them afterward by repeatedly sending money to the girl’s father.
In a surprising twist, the family also claimed that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani and a former Adamawa governorship candidate, visited their home in a bid to dissuade them from going public with the case.
Police sources confirmed that Abbo is currently being held at the FCID headquarters, where investigators are interrogating him. “The matter is under thorough investigation, and no stone will be left unturned,” a senior officer told reporters.
This is not the first time Abbo has faced controversy. In 2019, he was caught on video assaulting a woman in an Abuja shop, a scandal that sparked nationwide outrage. He was also previously accused of attempting to blackmail a married woman with a private video.
The current case has drawn widespread condemnation from civil society groups, women’s rights advocates, and child protection networks, who insist that the matter must not be swept under the rug. The Executive Director of the Child Protection Network (Lagos Chapter) described it as “a test of Nigeria’s criminal justice system,” urging authorities to resist political interference.
Since losing his Senate seat in 2023, Abbo has remained in the headlines largely for controversies rather than political achievements. His arrest has already generated heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift justice.
As of press time, neither Abbo nor his legal team has issued an official statement.
