Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that Ibadan’s facilities are ready to host Super Eagles matches. Makinde made this declaration while opening the 81st Annual General Assembly of the NFF in Ibadan, emphasizing that the state is adequately prepared to host major sporting events.
Key Points:
– Facility Readiness: Makinde stated that the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan has the necessary facilities to host top-tier events, including Super Eagles matches.
– Government Support: He pledged full government support to make the event successful, promising to invest the needed resources to upgrade facilities if necessary.
– Sports Development: Makinde commended the NFF leadership for ongoing reforms in the domestic game, particularly efforts to improve officiating and strengthen league organization.
– NFF’s Response: NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, praised Makinde’s commitment to sports development and promised that a Super Eagles match would be staged in Oyo State before the end of the current administration in 2027.
The governor’s assurance comes after the state’s successful hosting of the recent FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier between Nigeria’s Falconets and Rwanda. Makinde also advocated for a single-term tenure for sports administrators in Nigeria, which he believes would promote accountability, stability, and better performance in sports governance.
