The Transmission Company of Nigeria has blamed both vandals and severe weather for the collapse of a transmission tower in Kaduna, which has thrown parts of the state into darkness.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that a transmission tower in Kaduna collapsed due to a combination of severe weather and vandalism. Here’s what we know so far:

– Incident Details: Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II in Rigasa Community collapsed on Thursday, September 18, 2025, during a severe downpour and windstorm.
– Causes of Collapse: TCN’s investigation revealed that vandals had removed critical components from the tower, weakening its structure and contributing to its collapse.
– Impacted Areas: The collapse disrupted bulk power transmission to parts of Kaduna South, affecting several communities. However, areas like Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North were not affected.
– Restoration Efforts: TCN engineers are working to dismantle the collapsed tower and erect a new one. To minimize the impact, TCN has instructed Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to temporarily link the 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, ensuring continued electricity supply to residents in the Mogadishu area.
– Timeline: The collapse occurred on September 18, and restoration work is currently underway, with TCN assuring that every effort is being made to minimize the duration of the outage.

TCN apologized for the inconvenience caused to affected customers in Southern Kaduna and appreciated their patience and understanding as they work to restore power supply.
