Rivers Gov. Siminalayi Fubara Returns to Port Harcourt, Set to Resume Office After End of Emergency Rule

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday returned to Port Harcourt, where he is expected to resume office following the end of the six-month emergency rule declared in the state.

Fubara’s flight touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 11:50 a.m., more than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule. He was received by a large crowd of supporters who had gathered at the VIP wing of the airport to welcome him.

While the Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened on Thursday, the governor did not appear at the Government House, despite the presence of hundreds of supporters awaiting him.
