“Rivers State Assembly Resumes Plenary Six Months After Emergency Rule”

The Rivers State House of Assembly has reconvened after a six-month suspension triggered by the state of emergency. Lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, resumed plenary today, September 18, at the Assembly Residential Complex along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The suspension began on March 18 when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency, temporarily removing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Assembly from office.

As legislative activities resumed, a large crowd of supporters gathered at the Government House to welcome Governor Fubara following his reinstatement.
