The Lagos State Police Command arrested 65-year-old Chibuike Azubike, who claimed to be the “Obi of Lagos,” and his three accomplices for attempting to stage an unlawful unveiling ceremony for a purported N1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” at Apple Hall in Amuwo Odofin. Azubike, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Imo State, was arrested along with Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41.
The police sealed off the venue to prevent public disturbance and protect citizens from being deceived. The suspects are currently in detention, and investigations are ongoing. They will be charged in court accordingly. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh warned the public to remain vigilant against impostors exploiting cultural institutions for selfish gains, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful and capable of breaching peace in society. The police command deployed adequate manpower to ensure public order and peace within the area were not compromised.
