A newborn baby girl was found alive in a bush near Hope Academy Primary School in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, after being abandoned by her mother. The baby, wrapped in a cloth, was discovered on Wednesday in the A.A. Koto area of Akwanga town and handed over to the police.
The mother, a final-year student at the College of Education, Akwanga, has been arrested with the help of her friends and schoolmates and is now in police custody.
Residents, shocked by the incident, expressed sadness over the growing cases of abandoned newborns, especially given the tough economic situation in the country.
