In a move set to uplift morale amidst economic challenges, the Jigawa State Government has increased the monthly allowance for non-permanent teachers from N30,000 to N40,000.
The affected teachers are those serving with degree certificates under the J-Teach programme across secondary schools in all the 27 local government areas in the state.
It could be recalled that the Jigawa State Government introduced and launched the J-Teach programme in 2021 to address the shortage of qualified teachers across the state’s public schools.
According to the government, the programme aims to recruit and train non-permanent teachers to improve education delivery across the state to ensure more children have access to quality teaching.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner of Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Namadi at the Government House in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
Musa said the council thoroughly deliberated on the issue before reaching the decision. “After careful consideration, members agreed that increasing the allowance is imperative to motivate the hardworking non-permanent teaching staff at this trying time,” he explained.
He described the hike as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to supporting teachers who played a critical role in education delivery but often face financial difficulties.
