The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied reports that its petrol unit will shut down for two to three months for repairs, calling the claims “fake news”. This denial comes after Reuters reported that the refinery’s petrol unit might be closed for an extended period due to catalyst leaks, citing industry monitor IIR Energy.
According to Anthony Chiejina, the spokesman for the Dangote Group, there’s no truth to the report. He questioned the Reuters report’s use of “could” if they were certain about the shutdown plans. The refinery is said to have been processing crude since January 2024 and has significantly impacted the Europe-to-West petrol export trade.
It’s worth noting that the Dangote Refinery has previously refuted similar claims. In April, the refinery denied a Bloomberg report that a major fuel production unit had been shut down for repairs, stating that operations were continuing without disruption and that millions of liters of fuel were being dispatched daily .
