During my NYSC days, I decided to visit my babe — who’s now my ex — all the way from Sokoto to Calabar.
Two days on the road, under the sun, inside bad buses, surviving on gala and pure water. Finally, I got there around 9pm — exhausted but excited.

As soon as I arrived, my babe ran to the kitchen to fix food for me. I just dragged myself to the bathroom to shower. Halfway through, I heard a man’s voice inside the room. I paused. Maybe it’s the neighbor? Or her brother? My mind started doing press-up.

I stepped out, towel around my waist — only to see one guy chilling comfortably on the bed like landlord.

We greeted each other awkwardly. Then my babe just cleared her throat and said:
“This is my boyfriend. We’re planning to get married.”

Omo! My chest. My belle. My destiny! 😩
I asked her, “So why did you tell me to come all the way from Sokoto?”
She smiled and said: “It’s payback.”
Payback ke? Because I cheated once, years ago — and we already settled it.

As if that heartbreak wasn’t enough, they didn’t even let me sleep in the house. I carried my bag, my shame, and my broken heart to sleep in the park till morning. I swear the mosquitoes did night vigil with me.

Breakfast na truly National cake 💔😂
