The United States government has defended its recent decision to revoke valid visas held by Nigerian citizens, citing national security concerns and the need to protect its citizens. The revocations have affected various individuals, including students, business professionals, and frequent travelers. The US Embassy in Nigeria explained that the revocations are part of efforts to secure America’s borders, under Section 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Reasons for revocation include visa overstays, violations of US law, and security concerns. The US Embassy has also suspended its visa dropbox service in Nigeria, requiring all visiting visa applicants to attend in-person interviews for renewals.
