BREAKING NEWS: Nigeria signs deal with Brazil to start direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil

Nigeria and Brazil are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) to unlock direct flights between the two countries. This agreement aims to enhance air connectivity, foster economic growth, increase trade opportunities, and promote cultural exchanges.

The BASA agreement is expected to facilitate 4 to 5 weekly direct flights, likely operated by Nigerian carriers such as Air Peace and Caverton. This development will reduce travel time, cut logistics costs, and open new trade corridors for agricultural products, manufactured goods, and services.

Both nations have established a joint technical working group to finalize the direct flight agreement. The committee will draft and finalize new BASA arrangements, with a formal signing expected soon. The agreement will mark a significant milestone in Nigeria-Brazil relations, recognizing the cultural and economic ties between the two nations.

The initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to establish a direct air corridor between Nigeria and South America. Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazilian Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, have emphasized the importance of the agreement in strengthening economic and cultural connections between the two countries.

The direct flights are expected to spark significant economic growth, enhance trade, and strengthen cultural and social exchanges between Nigeria and Brazil. Two Nigerian airlines, Air Peace and Caverton, have been designated to operate on this route.
