Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has issued a strong warning to state governments, urging them to stop negotiating with bandits under any form of peace deal.
Speaking during an interview, the Defence Minister said the Federal Government is firmly against dialogue or agreements with armed criminal groups, describing such moves as dangerous and harmful to national security.
According to him, bandits cannot be trusted to keep agreements, adding that negotiations only:
- Encourage criminal networks
- Undermine military efforts
- Prolong insecurity across affected communities
Musa stressed that the government’s position is clear:
.No negotiations
.No ransom payments
He called on governors to fully support the federal security strategy, which focuses on sustained military action, intelligence-driven operations, and cooperation with local communities as the only lasting solution to insecurity.
The warning comes amid public anger over reports that some states are considering peace initiatives and the possible release of suspected bandits a move critics say weakens justice and demoralises security forces.
The Defence Minister also appealed to citizens to stop aiding bandits with food, money, or information, warning that such actions fuel violence and delay peace.
